Amex $20 Cash Back for Shopping at Walmart

Written by admin - 7 Comments

Do you have an American Express card? If so, then check this out…

American Express is teaming up with Walmart to offer a $20 statement credit when you spend $40 twice at Walmart (or Walmart.com) between November 18th and December 18th, 2008. That works out to a $20 off $80 in purchases, or a 25% discount.

To get started, enroll at American Express. Go do it now before you forget — I just did, and it was dead simple. Then hit Walmart and start spending.

  2. Would this work if I bought 2 gift cards of $50 each?
I couldn’t tell from any of the websites…

  3. Steven: I believe so. Amex will only see that the purchase was made at Walmart, not what you bought, so I can’t imagine that they’d be able to deny this. I also didn’t see anything stating that you can’t do this after clicking the link.

  4. If you read the terms and conditions on the page where you enter your card info, under section D it says offer not good on gift cards:

    D. Merchant Offer Terms and Conditions
THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS APPLY TO EVERY MERCHANT OFFER, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFED IN THE TEXT OF THE OFFER OR AT THE POINT OF PURCHASE: SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY; OFFER CAN ONLY BE REDEEMED BY FOLLOWING THE REDEMPTION INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDED WITH THE OFFER (EITHER VIA EMAIL OR DIRECT MAIL) OR ON THE PROGRAM SITE; OFFER CANNOT BE COMBINED WITH OTHER PROMOTIONS OR OFFERS; OFFER NOT VALID ON GIFT CARDS, GIFT CERTIFICATES, OR PRIOR PURCHASES. OTHER RESTRICTIONS MAY APPLY. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. NO SUBSTITUTIONS OR TRANSFERS WILL BE ALLOWED.

  5. Patty - I didn’t notice that wording. Aparently Amex’s system didn’t either, since I checked my on-line account and saw the $20 cash back already applied :-)

  6. Steven,
That’s great. Think I’ll go tomorrow and try it. There is somethng I ‘m planning to buy for $125 so I’ll buy a couple of gift cards and use them to pay for it.
    Worth a try. Thanks.

  7. Patty: Good catch, though I’m not surprised that they can’t enforce it. The only info that gets sent to Amex is the amount of the purchase and where it took place, so they can’t tell what you spent it on. Thanks for confirming, Steven.
