I just got a credit increase also. Mine was a 200% increase, from $2000 to $6000. Strange, because I also stopped using this card for most purchases a couple months ago.

This post has been featured on the <a href="http://retire-at-40.blogspot.com/2008/12/89th-carnival-of-money-stories.html" rel="nofollow">89th Carnival of Money Stories at Retire at 40</a>.

It's an interesting situation to be in. You think they're doing you a favour but in reality they are doing it for themselves. Also, be aware of when they raise your limit again, and again, and again. Suddenly you have all this money you could use but in reality don't want to. I reached the limit I wanted and now I always tell them to knock it back to what I had before when they give me a limit raise.

@Eric N: I agree, citi and chase both increased our limits and decreased our rates, too. we haven't received any changes in terms on our end. So there are plenty of folks who aren't being affected by the new limit reductions, fees, and rate increases. It's actually nice to be rewarded for paying in full rather than being called deadbeats by the industry. I use rewarded loosely, because rate reductions or limit increases don't matter to us.

I had the same recent experience but with a Citi card. I don't think the credit crunch is affecting me all that much to be honest...a lot to say about excellent credit!
