How Long Before Reward Credit Card Issuers Reduce Gas Rebates?

Written by admin - Leave a Comment

I’ve written in the past about my love for the Amex Blue Cash Rewards card. In fact, just this past weekend, this card saved me $0.17/gallon on a gas purchase when I got stuck paying $3.399/gallon. And as the price of gas continues to rise, the rewards will just get juicier. Which makes me wonder…

At what point will card issuers decide that they’re paying out too much for gas rebates (or groceries for that matter) and retreat? Given that we’ve already seen the majority of the most generous reward programs scale back to having a top tier of 3% rewards on select categories, it seems like it’s just a matter of time before high gas prices will force reward card issuers into a hasty retreat.

In the mean time, the best reward credit card out there (in my opinion, anyway) continues to be Blue Cash from Amex.
