“Credit Crisis” Sale at myFico.com

Written by admin - Leave a Comment

I recently received an e-mail touting a 20% off sale on credit scores via myFico.com. While the “Credit Crisis” name borders on fear-mongering, there are times when you need to know your credit score. If you’re in such a situation, you can order FICO Credit Complete and get credit reports plus FICO scores from all [...]

Free Credit Score From Equifax

Written by admin - One Comment

If you’re quick, you can get a free credit score from Equifax. They’re giving away 10,000 free credit scores (sponsored by MyFico). They try to upsell on a few things, but there’s no need to buy anything. And yes, this really is provided by Equifax, so it’s not a scam of any sort.
I just checked, [...]

Frozen Credit and Using Debit Cards to Rent a Car

Written by admin - 2 Comments

I written elsewhere about how and why to freeze your credit record, and I’ve also written about the ins and outs of renting a car. I was thus intrigued when I saw a blurb in a recent issue of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine about renting a car with frozen credit.
A reader had written in asking [...]

Another TransUnion Credit Monitoring Settlement

Written by admin - Leave a Comment

Yesterday I wrote about the recent TransUnion class action settlement. In short, if you had a credit card, loan, or credit account in the last 21 years, you qualify and can get free credit monitoring, credit scores, or money. Well, guess what? There’s another settlement out there kicking around. As a result of Townes v. [...]

TransUnion Settlement: Free Credit Monitoring and Credit Score

Written by admin - One Comment

If you, like most everyone else, had a credit card, loan, or credit account anytime between January 1987 and this past Wednesday (May 28th, 2008), then you’re eligible to file a claim in a preliminary settlement of a class-action lawsuit against TransUnion.
This lawsuit, which dates back eight years, stems from allegations that TransUnion violated federal [...]

Hard vs. Soft Credit Checks and Your Credit Score

Written by admin - Leave a Comment

As I’ve noted elsewhere, your credit score is an incredibly important number. Even if you don’t need it for securing credit, it can influence your insurance rates, play a role in landing your next job, and help (or hinder) you from getting an apartment. Thus, it’s in your best interest to understand the factors that [...]

Are You Willing to Sell Your Credit Score?

Written by admin - Leave a Comment

As important as your credit score is, would you be willing to sell a piece of it in return for some free cash? The reason I ask is that there are tons of great credit card offers out there, but every time you apply for one, your credit score takes a bit of a hit. [...]

The other day I wrote about how to improve your FICO credit score. Warren Buffett’s Credit Score

Written by admin - 18 Comments

Hmmm… This is kind of interesting. According to a recent issue of Fortune magazine, billionaire investor Warren Buffett’s FICO credit score is just 718. While this is far from a bad credit score, it’s interesting that the credit bureaus consider the Oracle of Omaha to be a bigger credit risk than little old me.
Perhaps Buffet [...]
